It all began in the fall of 2001 when our German shepherds Butch and Fred decided to sample our neighbor's little white Maltese dog as an appetizer (she was pretty wet and traumatized for sure but not injured). Needless to say, the neighbor was a little mad and this prompted us to investigate the idea of a hidden fence. Of course being a stickler for the best product at the right price (Sam's Club is my most favorite store), I sought out other options. I looked online for hidden fence companies and found do-it-yourself products (too many to mention), DogWatch®, PetSafe®, and Invisible Fence®.
I considered the do-it-yourself version at first end even though I'm a do-it-yourself kind of gal somehow I was concerned about training these two bums who had complete freedom for the last 6 years to a fixed boundary. I knew we could install it but I was afraid I would blow the training hence wasting the money on the equipment not to mention the time to install it. I then talked to my neighbor who has an Invisible Fence® and he told me of the battery plan and the service calls just to adjust the receivers which didn't really turn me on but since it worked for him I called Invisible Fence® first. The rep came out to our house took out his little wheel and flags and began to walk around the area. He wasn't the least bit pleasant to our dogs; in fact, he seemed to be bothered by my Butch who appeared to not be liking this guy much. I was left with a $2,200 estimate and a very long face because that is an awful lot of money.
Now back to square one. I can’t afford to pay that much money just to keep my dogs in so I began to entertain the other ideas again. Do-it-yourself seemed the cheapest but would it be the most effective in the long run. PetSafe® looked just like the do-it-yourself product only more expensive. So I read every last word on the DogWatch® website about their product. It was so much different from Invisible Fence®. A year battery life (at that time) which was patented no less, owner adjustable receivers meaning no service call expense and lifetime warranty. Yep this might be the one so I typed in my zip code and came up with my local DogWatch® dealer who gave me a bigger boundary professional fence installed for a lot less than Invisible Fence® quoted.
Now since the year 2001, I can honestly say that it was the best money we had ever spent. Right after we put the fence in, neighbors would stop as I was training the dogs and tell us of our little darlings’ adventures. One even told us he saw our Butch and Fred (who we believed never left the property) chasing bears in the woods far away from our house. Hmmm guess it’s a good thing we decided to put the fence in.... the little bums could’ve gotten hurt or killed on the kind of adventures they were involved with.
I fell in love with the DogWatch® system. I loved being in control of my dogs and keeping them safe in the yard. The horses and cats loved it cuz the dogs couldn’t chase them anymore. My husband loved it cuz he didn’t have to argue with the neighbor anymore (only when their dog would come on our property (the nerve)). Even though I paid less money for the DogWatch® system, I believe I got the best pet containment system available.
So much so, that when the dealership became available in 2004, I didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity to keep other people’s wandering bums safe at home where they belong for a reasonable price. I love the work I do. So that’s it. That’s my story. I’m a simple married mom of three respectable young men. I love animals and have horses, dogs, cats, birds, and fish (my heart can fit a lot more but my pocketbook says different). I hate to see any animal abused, tied up or confined. Even though I believe in freedom, the price of freedom shouldn’t be safety. That’s why DogWatch® is the greatest thing since sliced bread--dependable affordable freedom with safety.
